No beneficiary of the Government subsidy scheme will be denied benefits due to lack of Aadhaar, Minister for communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Monday.
Moving the Aadhaar and other laws (amendment) Bill 2019 in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Prasad said, ‘Under no circumstances services will be denied to any beneficiary due to lack of Aadhaar.’
Mr Prasad said that the amendments in the Aadhaar and other laws were necessitated after Supreme Court’s ruling on privacy.
‘In its Judgement, the Supreme court said that if the child becomes an adult, he should have the right to decide whether he should be monitored. That has been taken care for in this Bill.
‘However, the Supreme Court did not say Aadhaar was violative of privacy laws and that the the UID is needed to disburse subsidies,’ he said.
Claiming that the use of Aadhaar had simplified life of the common man, the Minister said, ‘In the five years, I have not seen a single poor person saying he has suffered because of Aadhaar and that his life has been complicated due to Aadhaar.’
