The team from JNTU, Hyderabad, which visited water-logging points across the city, has submitted its report to the GHMC with recommendations for solutions to a total of 19 such points in three zones.
The points were identified in Khairatabad, Charminar and Secunderabad zones, for which various solutions, ranging from rainwater harvesting to de-silting, were suggested by the team comprising two professors – Lakshmana Rao and Giridhar.
These were only temporary solutions for managing the situation. Permanent redress would require a detailed hydrological study, land use, land cover change analysis, and change in natural drainage, the report said.
The report has mainly suggested construction of rainwater harvesting pits with two injection wells each, at 11 locations.
The locations include Lake View guesthouse near Raj Bhavan, Villa Marie College at Somajiguda, near Karwan, Amberpet 6 No., sports club crossroads, and several at Malakpet.
De-silting of the nala overflowing near Lake View guesthouse, side wall on the culvert near Begum Bazar police station, and also the Azampura Road-under-Bridge with gratings upstream, and curbs on throwing garbage over the wire fencing at the location were a few suggestions by the team. Floating material and garbage should be removed on daily basis during monsoons, they said.
At multiple locations, rainwater run-off was recommended to be re-directed to RWH structures. At two locations, they recommended raising of the carriageway by one to 1.5 feet.
