CHENNAI: The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (
AMMK) has decided not to field a candidate for the
Vellore Lok Sabha election, scheduled for August 5.
The AMMK has decided not to contest any election until the process to register the party with Election Commission (EC) is completed and it gets a permanent symbol, AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran told reporters at Virudhachalam on Monday morning.
"There is an attempt to create an image that the AMMK has been completely destroyed, by showing people leaving the party every day. We held a meeting on Sunday to discuss participating in
Vellore Lok Sabha election. It was decided not to contest the election," Dhinakaran said.
"With two more assembly bypolls also scheduled to take place sometime later, the party candidates may end up contesting as independents once again, since the process of the party getting registered with the EC is still going on. Hence, it was decided not to contest any election until the process of registering the AMMK with EC is complete and we get a permanent symbol," he said.
