Party president K.S. Alagiri flags off the project in Tiruvallur

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) plans to desilt at least one lake in every district in Tamil Nadu to set an example to others, instead of just criticising the government for not doing its job properly, TNCC president K.S. Alagiri said.

Mr. Alagiri, who flagged off a lake desilting project undertaken by the Tiruvallur unit of the party at Devandavakkam village in the district, said party workers across the State were expected to desilt at least one lake or pond in their district.

“The desilting of the lake at Devandavakkam, spread over five acres, will be done over a period of 10 days. We are desilting upto one metre which is equivalent to creating two new lakes,” he said.

Party MP from Tiruvallur K. Jayakumar is heading the desilting project in the district.

The work will cost about ₹10 lakh and the party’s lawyers unit headed by Chandramohan and Tiruvallur district president Chidambaram will be overseeing the operation.
