Student falls off moving bus, injured

Attingal: In a second such incident in a few weeks’ time, a school student fell off a moving private bus on Monday at Attingal. Akshay Biju (12) a Class VII student of Government Model Higher Secondary School Attingal suffered a fracture on his right shoulder in the incident.
According to Syam M G, sub-inspector of Attingal police, the incident happened on Monday around 9am when Akshay, an inmate of Sreepadam Boys Hostel, was on his way to school.
“As per the accounts of witnesses, he boarded a private bus, Sangeetha. While the boy was on the footboard, the conductor rang the bell and the bus started moving at high speed. The boy lost balance and fell on the road,” said SI. He said a case has been registered against the bus conductor under the relevant sections of Juvenile Justice Act and 325 of IPC (voluntarily causing grievous hurt).
Earlier on June 26, a class IX student of KTCT School in Kaduvayil suffered grievous injuries to her hands and legs after falling off a speeding bus. Swaliha N S (14) fell from the bus through the door when the driver applied breaks suddenly.
The door did not have a lock. The girl sustained multiple fractures on her elbows and had to undergo surgery. Following this, her family had filed a complaint at Attingal police station and regional transport office in Attingal.

According to S R Shaji, regional transport officer of Attingal, the enforcement wing had decided to take strict actions against the bus crew who violated traffic rules, and conducting a daily drive to ensure private buses were following the MVD norms.
“In the latest incident that reported on Monday, we have decided to issue a show-cause notice to the driver and conductor of the bus”, he added.
