Youth on phone falls off building, dies

Thiruvananthapuram: A 19-year-old succumbed to injuries after he fell off the third floor of his residence at Thampanoor on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Sivakumar of Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu, who was residing in the city as a trainee working at a hotel here.
Sivakumar suffered serious injuries in the fall and was rushed to General Hospital but his life could not be saved. Thampanoor police have registered a case of unnatural death following the accident.
According to an officer attached to Thampanoor police station, Sivakumar was sitting on the parapet of the third floor wearing a headset before he slipped and fell to death.
“He was living in a rented apartment in Gandhari Amman Kovil Road. On Sunday, around 11:30pm, he was sitting on the parapet and was on phone. Somehow he lost balance and fell on the ground sustaining injuries across his body. He was working as a trainee at a hotel here,” the officer said.
Sivakumar had got into the job as a trainee staff two months ago. The body has been kept at mortuary. The police said that post-mortem examination would be conducted after his relatives arrive from Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The police team, which examined the building, found out that there was no major security lapse with regard to the building. The parapet was of prescribed height and prima facie there were no building rule violation, said an officer.
The preliminary conclusion of the police is that carelessness of the youth had led to the accident.
