Ambala: 2 found dead with syringes

AMBALA: Two youths in their late 20s were found dead in Durga Nagar here under mysterious circumstances on Sunday in a suspected drug overdose case.
Harpreet Singh (29) of Khalour village in Mohali district and Gurpreet Singh (26) of Kheri Gurna village in Patiala were lying dead with syringes in their pockets near shrubs on the roadside.
Dr G R Jain, a forensic expert in the police department, said some used syringes were recovered from the spot. “The syringes will be sent for examination to a laboratory,” he said. Police also found a Hero Splendour motorcycle registered in the name of Harpreet from the site. It is suspected both had come to Ambala to purchase drugs on Saturday evening.
Sultan Singh, DSP, Ambala (headquarters) said, “Prima facie it appears to be a case of drug overdose, but we have to wait for postmortem reports. Our teams have recovered syringes from pockets and hands of the victims. An empty syringe of the same brand was also recovered from near the bodies.”

“Family members told us that both had been admitted in de-addiction centres, but were not quitting drugs and used to keep roaming outside without informing us,” the DSP said.
Assistant sub-inspector Vijay Kumar, the investigating officer, said police initiated proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC.”
