How often to change your baby’s diaper?

While there are a lot of things that may overwhelm new parents, changing the baby’s diaper definitely tops the list. It does not matter how much you have practised on dolls and soft toys, nothing ever prepares you for the jiggling dance babies do when you are changing their diaper.
If you are a new parent, be rest assured that your baby will give you plenty of practice in wrapping diapers, so much so, that it may become your second nature.

Things to keep in mind while changing your baby’s diaper

For starters, you should look for a clean and safe place to change the diaper. While newborn babies do not move that much, they start rolling by the end of the fourth month.

Ensure that the diaper is of the correct size

Fold the diaper from the front since the umbilical cord is still healing

Always keep spare clean clothes handy in case of accidents

You may also keep baby powder and lotion to prevent rashes

How often should you change the diaper?

Keep that in mind that babies often urinate more than 20 times a day. Hence, it is important to understand that you may need to change the diaper every 2 to 3 hours. While it may get taxing at times, remember that not changing the diaper on time may cause rashes and irritate the skin of your baby’s bums.

While we understand that you may not want to wake up the baby while he/she is sleeping, it is better than the cranky kiddo with a super heavy diaper. It is always advisable to change your baby’s diaper before bedtime so that he/she can sleep peacefully. If your baby has sensitive skin and you’re worried they might develop diaper rash from a wet diaper, you can try applying diaper cream before bed.
