Writers, publishers honoured at the 22nd edition of the fair

The 22nd edition of the Neyveli book fair organised by NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) got under way at the book fair grounds in Neyveli on Saturday. R. Subramanian, Judge, Madras High Court inaugurated the book fair in the presence of Rakesh Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLCIL.

Justice R. Subramanian commended NLCIL for honouring eminent writers, publishers by releasing their books at the fair.

He spoke of the world’s premier book fair held at Frankfurt in Germany, and drew parallels with the Neyveli book fair, saying that both the events provided avenues for the readers to interact with writers and publishers.

He said that NLCIL’s efforts in bringing together more than 150 book publishers under one roof in a non-cosmopolitan area like Neyveli had helped create an effective knowledge hub, thereby serving the society.

NLCIL CMD Mr. Kumar stressed the importance of books as a catalyst in dissemination of knowledge and acting as a bridge between cultures. He also emphasized the need for inculcating the habit of book reading among children.

On the occasion, Karan Karki, a well known writer, and Kannadasan Publisher, Chennai were felicitated and a book titled Oththa Pulla Naan, a collection of poems written by R. Mohan, CGM, CSR, NLCIL was released.

NLCIL Directors R. Vikraman, N.N.M. Rao, Shaji John and Senior officials were present. The book fair concludes on July 14.
