Saravana Bhavan owner fails to surrender

He faces life imprisonment for murder

P. Rajagopal, owner of the popular Saravana Bhavan chain of restaurants, who was supposed to surrender in court on Sunday, failed to turn up, reportedly due to health reasons.

Police sources said the family may approach the Supreme Court again following his deteriorating health condition.

In March, the Supreme Court upheld the life imprisonment awarded by the Madras High Court to Rajagopal in the Prince Santhakumar murder case.

Case history

The victim was the husband of Jeevajothi, the daughter of a Saravana Bhavan employee, who Rajagopal wanted to marry.

A Bench, led by Justice N.V. Ramana,had given him time till July 7 to surrender.
