Coles says its little-known policy that gives shoppers a free roast chicken is STILL active - despite rumours the popular scheme was dumped

  • Shoppers are once again getting the opportunity to score a free roast chicken
  • If there are no hot chickens available in store simply ask for a free voucher
  • The Coles Hot Roast Chicken Promise is available in all stores nationally

Coles has reassured customers that their little-known policy that allows savvy shoppers to snap up a free roast chicken is still in full effect.

The policy, known as Coles Hot Roast Chicken Promise, gives customers a voucher for a full chook if there are none available when they attend the store.

The voucher, which can be collected from 11am until closing, can then be used for seven days - and was a huge hit with customers when it was relaunched in March.

But the free chicken policy had recently fallen into doubt, with some shoppers claiming it is only available during certain hours -  and others say Queensland stores don't offer it at all.

Coles confirmed this not the case and encouraged all customers who found themselves without a chicken to bring home to go and collect a voucher.

'We know customers love to get their hands on our delicious hot roast chickens, so for customers who aren't able to purchase one at the time they want within the period specified in-store, we can provide them with a voucher for a free hot roast chicken,' a spokesperson said.

It is not the only money saver that has caught the attention of customers with the Scanning Code of Practice promising to give items away for free if there is an incorrect scan.

The policy only applies if the item scans for a higher price than what it is listed at on the shelf.

But shoppers need to challenge the scanned price directly with management to get their product for free.

For a single items, if it scans at a higher price than the advertised or ticketed shelf price for that item, Coles will give you that item for free.

If multiple, identical items scan at higher price than the advertised or ticketed shelf price, they will give you the first item for free and the remaining items at the advertised or ticketed shelf price.
