MUMBAI: The Juhu police arrested a political party worker for extorting money from a BMC contractor. The accused, identified as Wadi, told the contractor that he was a close associate of a civic corporator. He was released on bail. Dheeraj Gohil was appointed by the BMC to run a public toilet in Vile Parle.
When Gohil denied Wadi's requests for a partnership, Wadi got the toilet locked by civic officials, stating that Gohil was overcharging people. To open it, Wadi took Rs 12,000 from Gohil. After that, Gohil said Wadi kept calling him for money. Gohil paid Rs 6,000, but could not pay more. He recorded his conversations with Wadi and submitted the same to the police. "Wadi was arrested for extortion. So far, we haven't found the corporator's involvement in the case," said a police officer.
