BHIWANDI: A traffic cop trying to flag down a
truck laden with rods died after one of the
metal bar fell off and pierced his chest.
Constable Dadaoshe Shinghe (35) from
Bhiwandi taluka police station was on duty on Saturday night when he spotted the "overloaded" truck carrying iron rods, driving at "full speed' in Bhiwandi, said the police. "He signalled to the driver to halt, but the driver revved up to avoid being caught," said a police officer.
He accelerated for a bit and suddenly applied the brake, causing one of the rods to tumble down, said the police. "The rod that fell pierced Shinghe's chest," said the officer.
A criminal offence filed against the driver, who fled after the incident, mentions the above sequence of events.
The police, with help from locals, took Shinghe to hospital where he died due to excessive blood loss even as he was undergoing treatment.
Assistant inspector
Pankaj Ghatkar said a manhunt has been launched for the driver who has been booked for causing death due to negligence.
