Students of Zilla Parishad High School located in the district headquarters may or may not worry about homework or excelling in their studies, but what gets them in a sweat is the lack of toilets on school premises. The school has 550 students, and 250 are girls among them. Though construction of 16 toilets commenced a year ago, it has not been completed so far.
“It is a serious problem. At present, girls use a dilapidated toilet, while boys urinate in the open. The contractor stopped the work reportedly due to non-release of funds. We have appealed to the authorities repeatedly to complete the work, but to no avail,” school headmaster Mohammed Zakir Hussain and school management committee chairman R. Brahmanandam told The Hindu.
