Week may begin on rainy note in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: It's time to keep your umbrellas handy as the met department staff have predicted moderate to heavy rain in the coming week.
According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Department forecast, showers will hit the city starting Monday along with cloudy sky and possibility of thunder showers and rain. The Indian Meteorological Department, New Delhi, too has declared that heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on Monday.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday over Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, as per the IMD forecast.
It was last week (July 4) that the city received its first pre-monsoon shower, which though delayed was the wettest in the last few years. While 29mm rainfall was recorded till 8.30am, the figure rested at 25.2mm till 5.30pm. As per the records, it was the highest first-day pre-monsoon rain witnessed in the city in the past three years. In 2018, the pre-monsoon rain had hit the city on June 28 with 1.4mm rainfall. In 2017, it was recorded at 13.2mm on June 28. Thereafter, showers hit the city on July 6 with 21.2mm rainfall.
