FIR lodged against school teacher for beating student

An FIR was lodged against a government school teacher in Hazaribagh district for allegedly beating a class 8 girl student, police said Monday.

The 12-year-old girl was taken to Sadar Hospital in an unconscious state after being allegedly thrashed by the teacher of the school at Karimati village on Saturday, the Officer-in-charge (OC) of Ichak Police station, Nand Kishore Das said.

The OC said the FIR was lodged on the basis of the complaint lodged by the parents of the girl and the villagers under IPC section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt).

The police recorded the statement of the victim after she regained consciousness.

The OC said corporal punishment is a crime and action will be taken against the teacher.

The villagers and guardians of other students also accused the teacher of beating students in the past.
