New Delhi: Marvel’s latest superhero flick Spider-Man: Far from Home has carried forward the impressive box office run of Hollywood films in India. The Tom Holland-starrer made ₹45 crore over a four-day extended weekend, beating all local Hindi film releases of the week.
“Hollywood continues to consolidate its presence in India. Spider-Man: Far from Home casts its web at the box office. Embarks on a flying start," said trade analyst Taran Adarsh about the film that notched up a screen count of 1,945 in India. The film is the biggest opener in the Spider-Man franchise in India and the second highest opening weekend for a Hollywood film in the country this year after Avengers: Endgame ( ₹157 crore).
According to trade website Box Office India, opening day numbers of around ₹9.5-10 crore were a healthy start for Far from Home in India with The Amazing Spiderman 2 that released in 2014 having collected the best numbers so far in the franchise at ₹7.48 crore. Homecoming, the last big Spider-Man film had earned ₹6.71 crore in 2017.
The Hindi release of the week, romantic action film Malaal notched up a dull weekend of ₹2.25 crore with most collections coming in only from the Mumbai circuit. Despite the World Cup matches, director Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15 continues to march along with the 10-day collections of the film touching ₹46 crore.
“Article 15 crosses the ₹40 crore mark. Continues its steady run at metros, which should help it cross the ₹50 crore mark in the coming days," Adarsh had tweeted.
The big blockbuster of the season, however, is controversial romantic drama Kabir Singh that has taken its box office total to ₹233 crore with a third weekend of almost ₹22 crore. The film stands at around ₹75 crore in Mumbai and ₹55 crore in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh while East Punjab has recorded around ₹20 crore.
According to Box Office India, Kabir Singh has recorded the fifth highest third weekend of all time behind Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Dangal, PK and Uri - The Surgical Strike. The collections are better than the likes of Sanju and Padmaavat in the third weekend.
“Kabir Singh continues its dream run. Is trending better than Padmaavat, Sultan, Sanju, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tiger Zinda Hai in week three," Adarsh had tweeted.
