The Union Budget presented on Friday is disappointing and does not hold any benefit to the State, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said.
Dr. Isaac told reporters here that the State would not get a share of the cess and special duty proposed to be levied on petrol and diesel. When the National Democratic Alliance took over, the Central tax on petrol was 9.02%.
It went up to 17.98% before the budget and now it was tipped to go up to 19.98%.
Similarly, the Central tax on diesel when the NDA government first assumed office was 3.46%. It was subsequently enhanced to 13.83% and now to 15.81%.
There was no enhancement in the outlay for the Rubber Board and Spices Board, he said.
The budget does not contain a stimulus package that would have helped the country to come out of an economic stagnation.
The much-awaited government intervention in this score is missing in the budget. As per the budget, the expenditure would increase only by 13.4%. Investment that touched 39% of the national income had dipped to 29% and the Union Finance Minister said the thrust is on raising it to 35%, which was far from encouraging, he said.
