Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra
Modi launched the nationwide membership drive of Bharatiya Janata Party from his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Saturday.
It was PM’s second visit to his parliamentary constituency after May 27 when he came to thank the people of Kashi for the sweeping victory in LS polls.
The over a month-long drive will be observed as ‘Sangathan Parva’ and may conclude by Mid August.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, he said that the drive will help in connecting with people from all walks of life. The drive, he further added, will also help party workers reach the regions untouched by BJP so far. Modi further said, “It is all because of the hard work and dedicated contribution by party workers that BJP succeeded in emerging as a major political party in north-east, east and southern parts of the country, all these regions, earlier, had no hold.”
“Don’t add people just to add the power quotient to the party, but the new members should help in creating a ‘New India’,” Modi told party workers.
“Saath aayein sarkar banayein ka naara nahi hum saath aayein desh banayein ka naara de rahe hain (Not a call for joining party to form government but our slogan for membership campaign is come together to build the nation). Basic objective of membership campaign should remain aimed at adding ambassadors for party as well as the country,” he explained party workers.
The city also celebrated the 118th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerji, the founder of Jan Sangh on Saturday at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Center.
Modi, on the occasion, said: “It’s a great coincidence that the national membership campaign is being launched on the anniversary day of Mukherjee at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya TFC in the holy city of Kashi. This Triveni will enable the party’s ideology to flow like the waves of holy Ganga.”
“Simplicity in life has not remained a compulsion but it is a necessity for those associated with the BJP. The values followed in their lives by former PM late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi had remained an example in this regard,” he added.
Earlier, BJP’s national working president JP Nadda said that before becoming the chief minister of Gujarat and PM of the country, Modi remained a dedicated worker who gave the vision of taking party’s works to booth level. He praised Modi for launching a membership campaign and said that BJP will observe it as ‘Sangathan Parva.’
Nadda mentioned how party is carrying forward the campaign on the lines of digital membership campaign started by national president and union home minister Amit Shah, which enabled the party to emerge as the biggest political party of world with 11 crore members.
He claimed that the BJP will break its own record by adding more than six crore new members in this campaign. He said that apart from giving missed call on toll free number of party activated by Modi, new members can also fill manual forms to join the party. In the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP chief and union minister Mahendra Nath Pandey five new members — Rekha Chauhan (social worker), head of Jakhini village Ram Kishor Yadav of Samajwadi Party, Chhotelal (painter), Mangal Kevat (trolley puller) and Hariram Dwivedi (folk singer) received their membership certificate from PM Modi.
