Hoax call: Jilted lover triggers bomb scare at Hyderabad airport ahead of Amit Shah's visit

When police investigated the matter they found that the alarm was triggered by a hoax call made by a jilted lover.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.

A phone call claiming there was a bomb in an IndiGo flight created flutters at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad this morning. The police took serious note of the call as it was made on a day when Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to be in the city for some party work.

Acting on the information, police in Hyderabad investigated the matter to verify the information that there is a bomb in the IndiGo flight at the airport.

However, later on the police found that the alarm was triggered by a hoax call by a jilted lover.

Amit Shah will be in Hyderabad today to launch the BJP's nation-wide membership drive.

Speaking to India Today TV, police said the jilted lover was travelling from Hyderabad to Chennai and provided the fake information about the bomb.

"We investigated the matter and found that the information was fake. All flights are operating normally from Hyderabad," Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shamshabad, Prakash Reddy told India Today TV.

He said the matter is still being interrogated.

In May, the Hyderabad Police received a similar hoax call about a bomb being planted in Malkajgiri's Sai Ram theatre in Rachakond.

Last year, the Chennai airport was put on high alert after authorities received a bomb threat call ahead of the visit of Vice-president Venkaiah Naidu and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
