CHENNAI: A police team on July 2 rescued a 14-year-old
girl from Assam, who had been kidnapped by two juveniles from the same state. On Friday, the girl's abductors, aged 17, were handed over to an
Assam police squad, including a woman, which left for home with them.
After her rescue on Tuesday last, the girl had been sent to a government home in Mylapore, while the kidnappers were taken to an observation home for boys. The Government Railway Police (GRP) team, which found the girl and her abductors, then informed police in Assam, where a case against the juveniles had been been registered at Golaghat station under IPC section 366 (kidnap).
Earlier, based on specific information about the kidnap provided by the Assam Police, a GRP team led by deputy superintendent of police Murugan and inspector Thomas Jesudasan circulated photographs of the girl and the two boys, along with the first information report (FIR) registered in Assam, to all police personnel. On July 2, the GRP team members were waiting at Chennai Central when the Coromandel Express from Howrah arrived. They conducted a thorough check in all the compartments and found the three.
Director general of police (railways) C Sylendra Babu appreciated the police team for swiftly acting and rescuing the kidnapped girl.
