Three youth arrested

MADURAI

Nijamuthin, a TV salesman from Tiruchi, was allegedly tricked by three men in the guise of buyers.

Arunpandi, 26, of Ponmeni here had contacted Nijamuthin over phone and placed an order for 24 LED TVs, including a dozen each of 32 inch and 42 inch LED TVs, following which Nijamuthin had loaded the goods on a carrier vehicle and drove down, on Wednesday.

On reaching Kalavasal, Arunpandi, along with his accomplices Prathap Jain, 24, of Virattipathu, and Raja, 26, of Madakkulam, had asked Nijamuthin to follow their car.

They had driven to a remote location near Ariyapatti junction on Madurai-Theni Road under Usilampatti taluk police station limits, where they brandished a knife, threatened Nijamuthin and robbed him of the TV sets and shifted them to another vehicle kept ready at the spot.

They immediately fled the scene. Nijamuthin lodged a complaint with the Usilampatti taluk police on Friday, following which the police registered a case. The police arrested the offenders. The three youth have been remanded in judicial custody and the TV sets worth about ₹three lakh were recovered from them.

“The three men are not habitual offenders and have no case against them in the past. They seem to have done this for some quick and easy money,” said a police official.
