VADODARA: Heavy showers have seen in migration of
crocodiles from the lakes in and around the city as well as the Vishwamitri River.
In last 24 hours,
two crocodiles were
rescued from different areas by the Wildlife Rescue Trust (WRT). A seven-and-half foot long crocodile was rescued from Mesrad village of Karjan taluka late on Thursday night.
“Villagers had spotted this reptile that was living in a small pond. It had migrated from a nearby lake but the villagers were scared that it may attack kids. They had been seeking help to rescue the reptile,” said Arvind Pawar of WRT. On Thursday night, the crocodile came out of the pond and was lying near the road.
WRT volunteers reached at the spot at about 10 pm but it took them four hours to rescue the reptile. “Another four-and-half-foot long crocodile crawled its way into the premises of a private company on the Halol Road. It was spotted in the toilet constructed for the workers. We got a call on Friday morning following which we rescued it,” Pawar told TOI.
Pawar said that many crocodiles including its babies move out of their abode during the rains and migrate to other waterbodies.
