Three of its 40 occupants suffer minor injuries

Forty students of the Guntakal-based K.C. Narayana English Medium School had a miraculous escape on Thursday when the school bus overturned at 6 p.m. at Penchalapadu village in Vidapanakal mandal of Anantapur district. Three students received minor injuries and were shifted to the Guntakal area hospital in a 108 ambulance.

Guntakal motor vehicle inspector G.V. Madhav Reddy told The Hindu that the bus with 42-seating capacity had 40 students at the time of accident, but all of them escaped from any serious injuries. Parents came to the spot and took away their wards.

The school bus driver tried to overtake a lorry on the Guntakal-Vidapanakal road and when the lorry driver did not allow him, the bus driver tried to overtake from the wrong side – left side of the lorry – and went off the road margin. The bus hurtled down into the nearby fields 10 feet below the road level and toppled.

Passersby and people in the nearby village came to their rescue.

Mr. Madhav Reddy said the RTA was going to file cases against the driver and the school management. The bus had renewed its fitness certificate on June 14, he added.

The driver is absconding.
