Truck rams historic temple mandapam

The four-pillar mandapam of the historic Thanthondreeswarar Temple collapsed late Thursday night after a truck rammed the old structure.
Neermullai Prabhakaran, 25, who was driving the truck, lost control and rammed the vehicle into the structure, Valappadi police officials said. The vehicle, which kept spinning, finally landed in front of the marriage hall attached to the temple. Several devotees rushed to the spot hearing the noise. Police arrested Prabhakaran and are conducting inquiries. The mandapam is said to have been built in the 17th century. TNN
