David 'Robbo' Robinson's resignation from Studio 10 prompted tears and kind words on Friday, but is there more to the story of his departure?

The show's former executive producer insists there is, writing a lengthy article about the behind-the-scenes feuds and politicking that led to David handing in his notice.

Rob McKnight, who was sacked from Studio 10 in November 2017, claims that David was never fully embraced by network bosses, who apparently tried to keep him off the air in a backstage producer role.

He wrote on TV Blackbox: 'Over [the past two years], Robinson has been cut back from on-air reporter to behind-the-scenes producer.'

According to McKnight, the decision to scale back David's on-camera appearances upset viewers, who began asking 'Where's Robbo?' in the comments section below Studio 10's Facebook posts.

This apparently prompted Channel 10's social media team to turn comments off.

McKnight claims that one of the reasons why David took on a backstage role towards the end of his employment at Studio 10 was because executives 'believed Scott Tweedie was a much better option'.

Scott, the good-looking host of 10 Peach music show The Loop, is considered something of a rising star at the network and is now a regular fixture on Studio 10.

In fact, he is so popular that bosses even considered him for The Bachelor before the role eventually went to astrophysicist Matt Agnew.

Studio 10 has declined to comment.

It comes after Studio 10 hosts Sarah Harris and Angela Bishop broke down in tears on Friday, when David announced his departure from the program.

The presenters revealed they were 'devastated' to lose David, who had been a member of the morning talk show for six years.

After watching a montage of his best moments, Sarah, 37, wiped away tears and said: 'He's one of the most brilliant talents I've seen in years.'

She added: 'I don't think he even realises just how special he is. We are all behind you, Robbo, and we can't wait to see what you do next and we adore you.

'We are so devastated to lose you and we love you so much. He's just one of a kind.'

Sarah concluded: 'We love you, Robbo! Thank you for an epic six years. It's not going to be the same without you.'

Angela, who was struggling to hold back tears, nodded in agreement with Sarah.

Denise Drysdale also praised Robbo, saying: 'Each time he did something, he'd improve and improve and improve.'

Joe Hildebrand added: 'He's so smart and so talented and just a thoroughly decent human being.

Let it go! Robbo certainly had some memorable moments on Studio 10, including when he dressed up as Elsa from Frozen

'Anyone who can get their hands on him, they'd be crazy not to snap him up.'

Meanwhile, a post shared to Studio 10's official Twitter account read: 'Our beloved roving reporter David Robinson is leaving Studio 10 for a brand new adventure. We'll miss you, Robbo!'

Studio 10 was rocked by two departures within weeks last year, when veteran hosts Jessica Rowe and Ita Buttrose left the talk show.
