THANE: A 9-ft rock python that was found critically injured after it was assaulted, allegedly by locals, near Yeoor village, was rescued on Thursday morning.
NGO Wildlife Welfare Association (WWA) had received a distress call about the injured python lying on the road.
"Our rescuer Manasi Nathwani found the
snake was alive but its jaw was dislocated and it had injuries on the head. The snake was taken to a vet who said it severe wounds," said Aditya Patil president of WWA.
Veterinarians said they fear the snake has a brain injury and in that case, it will be difficult for it to survive.
"The wounds suggest that it was hit with a stick or stone as its lower jaw is broken. Also, its head is swollen. We hope it does not have a brain injury. Its right eye is also red and is swollen. It has a wound on the neck and near its spine and heart," said Dr Kiran Shelar.
