Samsung Galaxy Note 10 could feature two Time of Flight sensors
  • Samsung could equip its upcoming Galaxy Note 10 series with two ToF sensors.
  • A new report suggests that Korean lens maker Kolen is establishing a new lens factory for this purpose.
  • The lens maker is said to manufacture lenses for the ToF sensor on the Galaxy Note 10 phones.

Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 10 will go official on August 7. However, reports and rumours about the handset have started leaking out ahead of the official unveiling. The smartphone was previously revealed in a hands-on image, which suggested that there could be a Note 10+ this time. Now, a new report by PhoneArena suggests that it could come equipped with not just one but two Time of Flight (ToF) sensors. In addition, a separate timely report by etnews states that Kolen, a South Korean lens maker is planning to invest 22 million dollars in the construction of a new lens manufacturing plant.

Kolen’s current lens production capacity is said to be 13 million lenses and the new factory will reportedly increase it by another 12 million lenses per month. The reason why Kolen is said to be ramping up productions is because it is planning to supply the lens modules to Samsung Electronics. The new plant will apparently be set up in Vietnam, where more than half of Samsung’s phones are made. The lens manufacturer will reportedly be producing and supplying ToF modules for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 10 smartphone. “We are planning to produce lenses through our new plant in Vietnam according to Samsung Electronics’ plan to expand application of TOF lenses for its Smartphones.” a representative for KOLEN told etnews.

As for the dual ToF camera sensor on the Galaxy Note 10 series, it is speculated that there will be one sensor on the standard Galaxy Note 10. However, the rumoured Galaxy Note 10+ could come equipped with a ToF sensor on both front and back sides. However, it is not known how the company plans to incorporate the sensor in the punch-hole camera design. In addition, as per some current rumours, the regular Samsung Galaxy Note10 could feature a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, while the bigger Plus model is said to come with a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel.
