PUNE: The charred remains of two men missing since June 30 were found in a car in the Tamhini ghat section on Thursday evening.
The car was found in Pimpri village, about 55km from the city.
The Paud police have identified the deceased as Vijay Aba Salunkhe (35) of Banda in Sindhudurg district and Vikas Vilas Gosavi (32) of Kolhapur. The men had gone missing on June 30 from Maangaon in Raigad district. Their relatives had registered a missing persons’ complaint with the Maangaon police on Wednesday.
The car was discovered by local villagers, who alerted the police.
The Paud police suspect it to be a case of an accident. “The driver may have lost control of wheel. The car must have veered off the road and crashed in the valley, before catching fire. The duo were inside,” inspector Ashok Dhumal said.
Ramdas Ingawale, inspector of the Maangaon police, said Salunkhe and Gosavi had left Banda on June 27 on an outing, as they told relatives. “They stayed in a lodge in Maangaon till June 30 and then left for
Lonavla and
Khandala,” Ingawale said.
When they did not return home, their relatives searched for them, unsuccessfully, in Lonavla before approaching the police.
