Cops turn away hotelier threatened by politician

NAGPUR: Ajay Bagdi, owner of a restaurant in Sadar, was threatened and abused by a politician from a leading political party for not serving food at 1.40 am. The politician, whose calls have been recorded, also threatened to set the hotel on fire but Sadar police are now refusing to register an offence.
Bagdi’s eatery was closed at midnight Thursday as usual. In the wee hours of the day, the politician called up Bagdi from outside the restaurant demanding to be served. When Bagdi told him it was not possible as the place was already closed, the politician, who was with his followers, started hurling abuses. He is also learnt to have hurled stones on the eatery.
When Bagdi disconnected the calls, the politician repeatedly called him demanding food or else face dire consequences. It is reliably learnt the politician had also threatened Bagdi stating his wife would be targeted as she is the one who operated the hotel.

A terrified Bagdi approached the Sadar police station where senior PI Mahesh Bansode recieved the complaint but is yet to register an offence. “I believe the whole issue was between two friends,” said the PI.
Bagdi said Sadar police want him to approach Ambazari police station to register an offence as the hotelier stayed there. “The politician had called me from outside the eatery owned by us located in Sadar police jurisdiction. I have no intention to settle the issue amicably but go for legal action as the caller had abused and threatened me in filthy languange and also my life is under threat now,” he said.
