Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said it was time to push for a self-reliant aviation industry and the government has launched UDAY in 2015 aimed at financial and operational turnaround of the companies.

‘Time to push for a self-reliant aviation industry,’ said Ms Sitharaman, who is the first full-term Finance Minister of the country, in her maiden budget.

‘Our government launched UDAY in 2015 aimed at financial and operational turnaround of discoms. We are examining performance of this scheme and it will further get improved,’ she said in the Lok Sabha.

On improving railway infrastructure, the minister said it is estimated that Railway infrastructure would need an investment of Rs 50 lakh crore between 2018 and 2030.

‘It is estimated that Railway infrastructure would need an investment of Rs 50 lakh crore between 2018 and 2030,’ she said.
