Pakistan posted 315 for 9 in their 50 overs against Bangladesh in a much-awaited match-up between the two sides at Lord's in London on Friday. It meant that they needed to dismiss Bangladesh for just 7 runs to qualify for World Cup semifinals.
Pakistan needed to bat first to have any chance of getting into semifinals and Sarfaraz Ahmed got lucky at the toss. However, Bangladesh bowlers did not allow Pakistan to get a brisk start.
Fakhar Zaman (13) was dismissed early by Saifuddin. Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq then easily moved the score ahead. However, there was no sense of urgency and it seemed that Pakistan were not going for an attempt to qualify for the semifinals. They took Pakistan to 148 in 30 overs.
It seemed that the plan was to launch an assualt after that. However, Babar (96) was dismissed in the 32nd over. Imam-ul-Haq completed his century but was out hit-wicket just after that. Mohammad Hafeez and Haris Sohail were soon dismissed and then Sarfaraz Ahmed was injured by shot from Imad Wasim.
Wasim scored 43 off 26 balls to take Pakistan past 300. Mustfizur Rahman finished with 5 for 75 as Pakistan could reach just 315 for 9 in their 50 overs.
