A teenager who disappeared after she was dropped at school wasn't reported missing for more than a week.

Authorities are now appealing for public assistance to help locate a 14-year-old girl missing from Kelso in Townsville, in Queensland's north.  

Despite not being seen for two weeks, the girl's father failed to report her missing until this week.

She was last seen by her father on June 21, when he dropped her to Kirwan State High School about 8.30am.

Both police and family hold serious concerns for the girl's safety due to her age.

'She is described as Aboriginal, 150cm tall, slim build with brown hair and brown eyes,' Queensland Police said in a statement.

The girl was last seen wearing a Kirwan State High School uniform, black and red school jumper, blue shorts, white socks and black shoes.

Police are urging anyone who may have information on her whereabouts to contact them immediately.
