LUCKNOW: Justice Rangnath Pandey of
Allahabad high court —who, according to a news report, had alleged “favouritism, nepotism and casteism” in appointment of judges in a letter to PM Modi —was not given a customary farewell when he retired on Thursday.
Senior registrar of Lucknow bench of Allahabad HC withdrew the July 1 notice about the farewell, known as full court reference in legal parlance. It has been a tradition of the HC to extend a farewell reference to a retiring judge and the court administration had on July 1 issued a notice, informing Oudh Bar Association, the advocate general and the additional solicitor general about the ceremony. In a fresh order, senior registrar
Manvendra Singh said, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the July 1 notice on full court reference (farewell) is withdrawn.”
