Peugeot’s Cookie Cutter Design Fools Us Into Mistaking New 2008 For 2020 3008

A pair of images, sent to us by a reader, had us thinking that the Peugeot pictured here is the 2020 3008. Guess what? It’s NOT!

Captured in Vigo, Spain, the crossover adopts the French automaker’s new and bold design language that made waves with the 3008 and was subsequently adopted by the following models.

It goes without saying that we should have immediately noticed that this isn’t the 3008, but its smaller sibling. After all, we have already published the exact same model already – and although there are striking similarities, that’s definitely no excuse, so apologies are in order.

As a quick recap, the new 2008 is based on PSA’s Common Modular Platform and is 14 cm longer (and much better looking) than its predecessor. It is available with a 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder in 99, 128 and 153 HP versions, as well as a 1.5-liter BlueHDI diesel with 99 HP.

The most interesting variant, though, is the all-electric e-2008 that packs a 136 HP electric motor and a 50 kWh battery. It supports 100 kW rapid charging, which enables the battery can be topped up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes, and on a full charge, offers a 193-mile range. a

Anyhow, speaking of the devil, the 2020 3008 will likely debut in the coming months with a few upgrades, possibly at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, although nothing’s official at this point.
