Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will inaugurate Sangathan Parva, the membership drive of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa at Sankhali on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as well as state BJP president Vinay Tendulkar will be present on the occasion.

The Goa unit of the party has set a target of registering 4 lakh members under this drive.

The nationwide membership drive will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Varanasi on Saturday morning.

National BJP president Amit Shah will participate in such a drive in Telangana.

Coming out with this
information at a press conference held in the BJP headquarters in the city on Friday, state general secretary of the party Sadanand Shet Tanavde said the primary membership of the party will be valid for a period of five years.

“Last time, we carried such a nationwide drive in 2014 and it was very much useful for the party to come to power under the leadership of Modiji,” he informed, stating that the current membership drive will be very much helpful for Goa unit of the party, in terms of strengthening its base in areas, where it fared badly at the recently held Lok Sabha election.

“In 2014, the state unit of the BJP had succeeded in registering 4.19 lakh members in Goa. However, we failed to maintain contact with all these members and it was reflected in the results of the 2017 state assembly election,” Tanavde admitted.

He said the party expects to register 2.34 lakh members in North Goa, while attracting 1.75 lakh members in South Goa, this time.

Various workshops in connection with this membership drive were held around the state from June 27, in which 3,500 workers of the party were trained for carrying out the drive.

The membership drive will be carried out online as well as by physically filling up of forms.

There is no entry fee for membership.
