CHANDIGARH: A 19-year-old youth was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a
minor girl. The accused will be produced before the local court on Friday.
Police said that the accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Sector 45. In her complaint, the 17-year-old victim alleged that the accused studied with her in school and was known to her.
The incident allegedly took place at the victim’s house a few days ago, after which the accused threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it. Initially, the girl did not tell anyone about the ordeal, but after the accused tried to
rape her again after a few days, she told her parents about the incident.
Her parents reported the matter to the local police, who conducted a medical examination of the girl.
The medical report confirmed the rape, following which a case was registered under Section 376 (punishement for rape) of the
Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
At least three cases of sexual assault on minors have been reported in June.
