PUNE: Three unidentified men who posed as an official from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) robbed a truck driver of Rs 1,500.
The robbery happened in the early hours of Thursday on the service road of Karaj-Dehu Road bypass at Ravet.
Ashok Saste (29), the driver of the truck, had lodged an FIR with the Dehu Road police in connection with the case.
ASI BD Gawari told TOI that on Wednesday night, Saste was on his way to Mumbai from Daund to deliver a consignment of sugar.
“Around 12.30am, Saste reached at Ravet and stopped near a restaurant on the service road to get a receipt of the goods. While he was waiting to collect the slips, three unidentified men approached him. The told Saste that they were from RTO. They told Saste that his truck was overloaded and asked to check its weight. They even forced the driver to drive the truck up to a nearby weighing bridge,” Gawari said.
When Saste became suspicious of their appearance, the trio abused him.
“One of them then snatched Rs 1,500 from the pocket of Saste’s shirt and the trio fled from the spot,” Gawari said.
The Dehu Road police have registered the offence under section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.
