4 persons held for brutal dowry murder in Bijapur

Pune: The Wanawadi police arrested four persons for allegedly killing a 26-year-old woman for dowry in Bijapur, Karnataka, and then hiding in Pune. The incident took place on June 8.

The deceased was identified as Parveen Ashfaq Kalekote, a resident of Bableshwar Naka, Bijapur. Karnataka police arrested her husband Ashpaq (46). However, his parents Fakruddin Kalekote and Rahmatbi, sister Asma and brother Altaf allegedly absconded. There were several protests demanding their arrest.

According to the police, Parveen was Ashpaq’s third wife. Her in-laws allegedly tortured her for dowry. Between 7 am and 10 am, the accused tortured her and even inserted iron rod in her private parts and strangled her to death. 

DCP (Zone 5) Suhas Baavche said, “Karnataka police informed us about some accused hiding in Sayyed Nagar under Wanawadi police station area. Accordingly, a team was sent there and accused Altaf was arrested. However, three others fled from there.”

Policemen Pratik Lahigude and Shirish Gosavi received information that the accused persons would arrive near Kausarbag Masjid, Kondhwa. 

“Our team laid a trap and arrested Fakruddin Kalekote, his wife Rahmatbi, and daughter Asma, with the help of Karnataka police. After station diary entry, they are being taken to Bijapur for further investigation,” said Senior Police Inspector Krantikumar Patil, in-charge of Wanawadi police.
