The district-level monitoring committee for the 26th phase of vaccination drive against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in cattle has been formed in the district with District Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao as the chairman.
The 21-day vaccination drive, named Goraksha, to save the livestock from the viral disease will begin in the district on July 17. District panchayat president Babu Parassery will launch the initiative.
In the district, the drive, comprising door-to-door visits and special camps, will be completed with the support of 120 squads. Based on State-level instructions, online documentation of vaccination details will be done by the squads. Also, all vaccinated animals will be tagged with a 12-digit identification number.
About 1,11,928 domestic animals, including cattle, buffalo and pigs, are expected to be covered under the intensive vaccination drive.
The 20th Livestock Census too is in progress with the support of selected enumerators in the district. It is likely to be completed by July 6.
