JAIPUR: A farmer, Netram Nath (47), allegedly committed suicide by consuming
pesticide at Raghunathpura in Ganganagar district following a quarrel with his family on Thursday, according to police. Nath, after having an argument with his wife and children in an inebriated state on Wednesday night, went to the fields, where he committed suicide, said
Suratgarh deputy superintendent of police Vidyaprakash Jat.
The farmer was found dead in the fields on Thursday, following which his family informed the police. “It is not yet clear what led to the argument,” said Jat. His brother Madannath said, “He had a debt of Rs 4-5 lakh. He had taken loan from
Rajasthan Marudhara Gramin Bank. He is survived by two sons, wife and mother. He was frustrated because he kept getting notices from the bank.”
According to the doctors, who conducted the post-mortem, the deceased consumed pesticide. However, no pesticide bottle was found at the spot where the body was found. “The exact reason of his death will only be known after the post-mortem report comes,” said Jat.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that Nath had taken a crop loan through the Kisan Credit Card in 2018 and had been served a notice by the bank,” he added. The police officer said Nath’s body was handed over to his family after autopsy and proceedings were initiated under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
