  • A mum has revealed how a 'realistic' looking toilet helped potty train her child
  • She says the $29 item was a hit and her daughter loved using it straight away
  • The mother says her young child had previously stopped using her potty
  • She says her daughter loves it because it opens, closes and has flushing buttons

A savvy Australian mum has revealed her hack for potty training toddlers after she had success training her child using a realistic toddler-sized toilet from Kmart.

The mother recently posted photos showing the $29 item to Facebook with an explanation saying how effective the 'toilet potty' had been in helping her child.

She said her daughter had stopped using her potty some months ago but as soon as she gave her the device to try, she was thrilled and started using it immediately.

'She loves that it is a toilet like mummy and daddies. The fact that she can open and shut the lid and press the buttons to flush. HUGE success for us,' the mother wrote.

The mother said she couldn't believe how keen her daughter was to use the Kmart device without any prompting from her at all.

'She got up this morning and said "wee toilet" so I put it together and she did her first wee on the potty in months!

'I was going to post this earlier but she was trying to take her pants off. So I took her nappy off and she sat on it and did a poo!'

The Kmart Toilet Potty has been created to look very much like the real thing, only it's small enough for a child to be able to use on their own.

According to product information on Kmart's site, the device (designed for children aged one year and over) features a removable bowl to make cleaning easy, non-slip feet and a lid that can be lifted up and down.

An extra realistic touch comes courtesy of battery-powered 'flushing' sounds that can be heard when a child presses down on the top button.

Thousands of people who've seen the item posted on another popular Facebook page also said how great they thought the $29 gadget was for toilet training kids.

'HUGE difference to trying with a real toilet. No hesitation at ALL to climb on tonight,' said a third.

While another added they could vouch the item was a 'lifesaver', saying they finally got their two-year-old daughter to start using the toilet after training them with the device.
