Kurukshetra: The Kurukshetra University (KU) faculty is still awaiting the arrears from the university authorities on the account of hike in salary in view of the 7th pay commission. As per the information gathered from KU officials, arrear is due since January 1, 2016, to December 2018 worth lakhs of rupees for the teachers and they are losing interest in the arrear.

As per sources, the file concerned to the arrears was submitted to the Finance Department of the Haryana Government by the university in January 2019, of the arrears worth around Rs 35 crore of the teaching and nonteaching KU staff, but till date, no response has been received.

President of Kurukshetra University Teacher Association (KUTA) Dr Sanjeev Sharma said, “The teaching staff working in other universities of Haryana and government-aided colleges has already received the arrears on account of the 7th pay commission. The faculty and employees of Kurukshetra University have been given step-motherly treatment, despite being the oldest university of Haryana which is ranked on A+ grade by NAAC.”

“The demand for arrears has been put before the State Government many times but no results have been achieved so far. KUTA resolved to launch protests after a week in case the arrears are not paid and if the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) guidelines on 7th pay commission are not implemented. The functioning of the university is severely hampered due to resource crunch and the KUTA appealed to the State Government to take a favourable decision immediately to save the university”, added Dr Sanjeev.

Dr Tejinder Sharma on behalf of KU authorities told, “The matter has been already raised in front of the Finance Department of Haryana government and the funds to clear the due arrears are awaited from the government side. The teachers are only demanding their rights and they are facing the loss of interest on the arrears. The government should look into this matter at the earliest to clear the due arrears.”

TOI tried reaching the office of Haryana Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu and principal secretary finance TVSN Prasad but they could not be reached despite repeated attempts.
