The government has given administrative sanction for an amount of ₹55.53 lakh to start half-way homes for the rehabilitation of those who have been cured of mental health disorders but are struggling to return to a normal social and family life.
The purpose
Health Minister K.K. Shylaja said the government intended to tie up with voluntary agencies in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Kozhikode to start mental health rehabilitation.
Half-way homes have been envisaged as centres where those cured of mental health disorders can be trained to go back to a normal social life and given vocational training, so that they have additional job skills also.
Year-long programme
Year-long rehabilitation programme with involvement of the individual’s family at various stages is what is envisaged.
