A 32-year-old city-based businessman allegedly shot himself with a pistol inside a car on Nehru Outer Ring Road at Manchirevula village in Narsingi on Thursday afternoon.
Faizan Ahmed, a resident of Lower Tank Bund, was soon rushed to a corporate hospital at Gachibowli where his condition is said to be critical.
The debt-ridden businessman, who runs an educational consultancy at Punjagutta, attempted to commit suicide with a pistol of nine mm calibre, said Madhapur Deputy Commissioner of Police A. Venkateshwar Rao.
The victim took ORR from APPA junction and reached Manchirevula, where he parked the vehicle on the extreme left corner and shot himself at around 3 p.m. “A few minutes later, traffic patrol team noticed the vehicle parked in the restricted area and went to the spot, where they found him in a pool of blood and alerted the local police, who in turn rushed to the spot with an ambulance and shifted him to the hospital,” said Mr. Rao.
The investigators said Faizan, who was clad in a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, apparently shot himself on the right side temporal region of his head and the bullet exited from the left side of his head before hitting the car window.
A team of forensic experts examined the spot, car and the firearm and collected evidence.
Mr. Rao said they are verifying whether it is a licenced weapon.
“For the past several months, he was suffering losses in his consultancy business and this might have forced him to resort to the extreme step,” the officer said.
The investigators found that the car does not belong to Faizan and he took it on a rental basis from an automobile company, which provides cars for self-driving.
“The car was given on rent to Faizan Ahmed in October last year, and since then, it had been with him on a long-term rental basis. We have been raising bills and came to know about the incident after the police contacted us,” said S.M. Jain, designated partner of Driven by You Mobility LLP. A case has been registered and a probe is on.
