MUMBAI: Two head operations and four days after was pushed off the eighth floor refuge area of her 15-storey residential building in Goregoan, a 12-year-old girl continues to be critical at a
Powai hospital.
She was admitted to LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, on June 29 with a severely fractured skull and blood oozing from her nose. "She is very critical," said a doctor from the hospital on condition of anonymity.
Her neighbour has started a crowd-funding effort to raise the Rs 8 lakh needed for the child's treatment. A total of 114 donors have contributed Rs 85,564 so far. The fundraising campaign started after the news was published in TOI on Wednesday.
"We are trying our best to arrange the funds, but are limited by our financial condition, and time is running out for the girl. Please help us raise the required amount by clicking on the donate button and/or sharing this fundraiser with family and friends," the neighbour has requested on a
crowdfunding website.
Meanwhile, the girl's parents claimed that the
Aarey police were trying to hide facts about the sexual abuse. Police said they have registered a case based on a preliminary medical report given by the hospital. Further relevant IPC sections will be added if the medical report confirms sexual abuse.
"I have learnt from the doctors that my daughter has suffered injuries on her head and there are marks on her body and even private parts. We feel the police should invoke more serious charges,'' the girl's father told TOI from hospital. He alleged the police are trying to hush up the matter. "Initially, they tried to show it as a suicide case. They registered an FIR only after locals protested and indicated the role of the 16-year-old in the crime,'' he said.
The accused's parents, before their arrest, had threatened the girl's parents that "they will go any extent to get their son out on bail."
Senior inspector Vijaylaxmi Hiremath of Aarey police station said they have registered a case of sexual assault under POCSO. "The medical report shows head injury and bruises on her abdomen," said Hiremath.
