Minister in charge of Mysuru district G.T. Deve Gowda has said that all development works will get over much ahead of the Dasara festivities. The Minister claimed he brought Minister for Public Works H.D. Revanna and senior bureaucrats to Mysuru recently, to ensure that public works were implemented faster.
The expansion of government guesthouses — such as Jaladarshini and Chamundi Guest House — was also under way, he said.
“The Minister for Public Works, I, and other officials, discussed the works. They are expected to be completed before the start of the festivities,” Mr Gowda told presspersons, during the spot inspection in Chamaraja constituency here on Wednesday. he was accompanied by MLA L. Nagendra.
The Minister said he had asked officials to speed up the work of widening Irwin Road. “The Deputy Commissioner, Mayor and Deputy Mayor have been asked to sort out issues and ensure its early completion,” he said.
Arguing that Mysuru required greater attention, Mr. Gowda said the city was growing faster and the pace of development was expected to double as Mysuru and Bengaluru are being linked with a 10-lane highway. “Bengaluru is getting saturated and there is ample scope for Mysuru to grow. This said, Mysuru should not go the Bengaluru way. We need to emphasise on the city’s growth in accordance with the foundation laid by the Mysuru Maharajas,” he opined.
The Minister, who went around the constituency like he had done on Tuesday, said the proposals discussed with regard to the constituency would also be placed before Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for funds. “A separate meeting will be convened with the CM to discuss the proposals of all constituencies and get his nod.”
The Minister promised to bring the Ministers for Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education here next week for a meeting on the progress and status of public healthcare projects and what the city and district required on the healthcare front.
The meeting will review the progress of upcoming hospitals and rural healthcare infrastructure and look at the problems plaguing K.R. Hospital such as the ventilator scarcity and others.
Mr. Gowda said visitors to K.R. Hospital, one of the largest public healthcare establishments in the State, have no place to sit, and attendants of patients have no place to rest. “We need to develop a park on the premises for visitors and attendants. Stone benches should be put in place in the park,” he said.
‘Make provision for parking near bus stand’
Make a provision for the parking of four-wheelers of those visiting the mofussil bus stand by making use of the vacant plot in front of the bus terminal where taxis were parked presently.
This was the direction Minister in charge of Mysuru district G.T. Deve Gowda gave to the officials during his inspection around the bus-stand areas here on Wednesday.
On learning that there was no dedicated parking for four-wheelers, the Minister asked for a detailed project report on easing the parking problems by establishing a facility on the plot that is under the ownership of the Mysuru City Corporation.
Incidentally, the same plot was earlier proposed for the construction of a multi-level parking facility by the MCC. It was proposed twice, including under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, but turned down both times.
