Admissions to many popular undergraduate courses at Delhi University have closed after the first round of admissions. For the remaining courses, the second cut-off list released on Wednesday saw a marginal dip in the eligibility requirement.
Surprisingly, seats for B.A. (Hons.) political science at Hindu College which saw the highest cut-off at the university at 99% have been filled under all categories except economically weaker section category. For EWS students, a second cut-off of 97.75% has been issued. Up to 84 students have been admitted to the course so far.
In fact, admissions to B.A. political science at several colleges with high cut-offs have been closed, including Miranda House (98%) which admitted 110 students, Lady Shri Ram College (98%) 166 students, Ramjas (97%) 181 students, Kirori Mal (96%) 287 students and Gargi (96%) 155 students among others.
The course clearly comes out as one of the most popular courses having received 1,30,240 applications and admitted 2,794 students. The number of applications were second only to B.A. English which had 1,42,970 applications but only 876 students have been admitted so far.
At Lady Shri Ram College which posted the highest cut-off for B.A. English, the second list saw a marginal dip of 0.25% from the first list of 97.75%, having admitted 57 students.
At Miranda House, where B.A. economics and B.A. geography had the highest cut-off of 98.25%, both announced a slight drop in the cut-off to 97.75% and 98% having admitted only nine and 17 students respectively.
At Shri Ram College of Commerce, while admissions for B.A. (Hons.) economics has been closed, B.Com (Hons.) remained open with a drop of 0.50% from the first cut-off of 98%.
Among science courses, B.Sc (Hons.) physics at Hindu College which had one of the highest cut-offs at 98.33% was also closed for admissions. However, science courses at multiple colleges remained open with a marginal dip in cut-offs.
Applying in colleges
At the close of admissions under the first list, a total of 23,266 admissions were made according to data from the university. The total allotted strength of the university this year is about 63,000 students. For students wishing to take admissions have time up till July 6 to approach colleges for approvals. Those who wish to switch college will have to cancel admissions at the first one and then reapply.
