Ludhiana: Sandeep Chaudhary (23) a javelin thrower from GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar achieved the incredible feat of creating a world record which is also his personal best after a throw of 65.80 meters. With this feat, Chaudhary is now eyeing Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
At the Grosseto Grand Prix in Italy on June 8, Chaudhary scripted history by adding a remarkable five meters to his previous world record with a personal best throw of 65.80 meters. He created the earlier world record at 60.01 meters at Asian Para Games held in October 2018 at Jakarta Indonesia thus creating two world records in a span of eight months. He was the one to fetch the first gold medal for India in Javelin in Asian Para Games in history.
He has emerged as a favourite for the Dubai 2019 World Para Athletic World Championship to be held in November. In fact, Chaudhary is the only one since last year to have thrown over 60 meters.
The para javelin thrower, Sandeep said, “I have toiled hard after facing failure at Rio-2016 Paralympics and learnt to control my emotions. I matured as a player. I am already very excited about Dubai 2019 World Para Athletic World Championship to be held on November 8.”
A resident of Gurgaon, he is pursuing his studies in Bachelors in Physical Education from GHG Khalsa College. He is already a graduate in Botany from Delhi University. His father, Subhash Chandra is in CRPF and mother Supyar Devi is a housewife. Owing to the support of his College Governing Council, department faculty, his coach Naval Singh and the Go Sports Foundation, Sandeep feels confident about his new target.
