Golf Course Road & IFFCO Chowk among ‘critical’ flood areas

Gurgaon: In order to tackle waterlogging and flooding, GMDA has prepared a special flood control plan under which 44 ‘critical’ junctions have been identified. Upscale areas such as Golf Course Road, Mayfield Gardens, Nirvana Country intersection, South City junction, IFFCO Chowk underpass, Signature Towers crossing, Shankar Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Medanta Road are among the junctions in the list.
A nodal officer has been assigned to each of these junctions and it will be their responsibility to assess the progress of cleaning work of the drains at these locations and monitor water levels during rainfall. “The officials will regularly monitor these areas, undertake requisite measures and inform the officials concerned,” said a GMDA official.
Additionally, GMDA has also set up several flood control offices and sub-divisional control rooms, which will be functional between July 1 and September 15. Flood control offices will be set up at seven different locations, including the GMDA office, Hero Honda Chowk, Old Gurgaon, Golf Course Road, Behrampur and Dhawanpur. The main function of the control rooms will be to receive warnings about floods and other information and communicate with sub-divisional control rooms and senior officials, including the GMDA chief executive officer.
Sub-divisional control rooms, on the other hand, will keep in touch with relief workers and monitor machines at the critical spots. They will also be required to send comprehensive daily reports to the central control rooms.

GMDA officials said while these are the short term measures to address flooding and waterlogging, a comprehensive drainage plan worth Rs 160 crore has also been prepared and approved by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
The plan will cover the creation of water harvesting structures, ponds and the drainage system at Vatika Chowk, as well as the construction of recharge wells along the SPR.
